There are forty-nine (49) days until the 2012 US Presidential Election. On Monday of this week, Mother Jones ran a story about a fundraiser for Mitt Romney held in a Boca Raton home on May 17, 2012 wherein he describes Obama supporters. At this private fundraiser event, the Republican nominee for President, Mitt Romney, dismissed all Barack Obama supporters as "...moochers and victims".
To many, Governor Mitt Romney’s remarks about Obama supporters shows an utter disdain for nearly half of the American electorate. When discussing his comments at the fundraiser, Romney said his remarks were inelegant--- but apparently not an inaccurate statement of his beliefs about much of the American electorate. With that said, was Monday a good or bad day for the Romney Presidential Campaign?
At said fundraiser, Governor Romney was asked how he could win in November, and he replied:
“There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the president no matter what. All right, there are 47 percent who are with him, who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you-name-it. That that’s an entitlement. And the government should give it to them. And they will vote for this president no matter what…These are people who pay no income tax…[M]y job is is not to worry about those people. I’ll never convince them they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives.”
Governor Mitt Romney reportedly made the afore-referenced remarks at a $50,000 plate fundraiser dinner held for him. Clearly, based on his remarks, at this event, Governor Mitt Romney is seeking and expecting that a very privileged minority of Americans will vote for him in the upcoming Presidential Election. Apparently, Governor Romney is expecting that the "moochers and victims" (also known as Obama supporters) will be held at bay by the voter suppression tactics being employed across the country--thus affording a select few the opportunity to cast their vote in the upcoming elections.
The tape of these comments by Mitt Romney were first posted on You Tube. Then the tape was brought to Mother Jones, Romney's comments are thought by many to be a bomb shell for his 2012 Presidential Campaign----as it alienates what Romney terms 47% of the electorate. More content from the tape of the Mitt Romney's fundraiser will be provided in Mother Jones.
