Today, January 19th, 2011, the US House of Representatives is scheduled to vote on the repeal of the Affordable Care Act. What would be the result of repealing the Affordable Care Act?
- Insurance companies could once again drop women and their families when they become sick.
- Insurance companies could deny health coverage to children with pre-existing conditions again.
- Women would stop receiving no-cost preventive care such as mammograms and pap smears.
And that is only the beginning.
Call your Member of Congress now at 877-667-6650 and tell your elected officials to vote NO on the repeal of the Affordable Care Act –we cannot go back to the days of being at the mercy of insurance companies.
According to 9to5, “The Affordable Care Act ended discriminatory insurance company practices like charging women more than men for health care coverage and denying coverage to domestic violence survivors and mothers who have had Caesarean sections under the guise that they have “pre-existing conditions.” “
The Secretary of the US Treasury wrote in his blog post that, “Affordable Care Act provides Americans certainty that they will have continuous access to affordable health insurance. And it provides businesses and the government certainty that health care costs will be contained in the future. Additional certainty encourages businesses and families to invest, laying the foundation for stronger economic growth. This is exactly what we need at this crucial stage of the economic recovery.”
Your voice will be critical in making sure that our Members of Congress stand on the side of women and their families.
